Project Blue Book Case File
Dayton, OhioMay 1960
Summary
On a May evening in 1960, a resident of Dayton, Ohio spotted a peculiar light in the sky. The witness described it as a round, steady golden light that resembled a star. The object appeared through a window at a 70-degree elevation (measuring the angle upward from the horizon). From start to finish, the sighting lasted between three and five minutes. During that time, the object moved fairly quickly across the sky.
The Air Force investigator noted some problems with the witness's account. The report contained inconsistencies, particularly about how someone could observe an object at a 70-degree elevation through a window, and the witness's answers were vague on several key points. Because of these issues, the investigator could not draw firm conclusions from the available evidence.
In the end, the Air Force listed this case as "Insufficient Data for Evaluation," though the investigator's notes suggested the witness probably saw an aircraft. The full case file, seven pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
