Project Blue Book Case File

Dayton, OhioJune 1960

Insufficient Data

Summary

On the evening of June 6, 1960, a witness in Dayton, Ohio saw a bright bluish-green glow appear in the northeastern sky. The object was moving toward her while descending at an angle. She said it looked like a shooting star, but different from any she had seen before. The object disappeared behind some trees after about one second.

The witness reported the sighting to the Air Force on a technical information form. In her account, she noted that the sky was clear at the time and the object appeared solid. She estimated the object's brightness was like that of a distant automobile headlight. The object did not change brightness, shape, or appear to stop at any point during the brief sighting.

The Air Force evaluated the case and concluded the object was probably a meteor. The description, according to the file, was typical of a meteor observed at high altitude. No other witnesses are listed in the file, and no additional corroborating evidence such as radar data appears in the available documents.
