Summary

On July 21, 1960, someone in Dayton, Ohio saw a bright object moving across the sky. The witness watched it for about three to four seconds as it traveled from northwest to east, passing from directly overhead down toward the horizon.

The object looked like a burning aircraft, but smaller. It was green with an orange halo around it and stayed bright the entire time the witness could see it. The object moved steadily and did not explode or break apart during the sighting.

The Air Force investigator who reviewed this report concluded it was probably a meteor, a piece of rock from space that burns up as it falls through Earth's atmosphere. The case file notes this as a "typical meteor observation." No further investigation or analysis appears in the file.
