Summary
On a January night in 1957, someone in Dayton, Ohio reported seeing a round object with rays extending from it. The object appeared to be about the size of a quarter held at arm's length and displayed colors of red, green, bluish-green, and white.
Air Force investigators checked the sighting with both enlisted personnel and officers. They determined the object was the star Sirius, one of the brightest stars visible in Earth's night sky.
The U.S. Air Force ultimately marked this case as unidentified, even though the investigating officers believed they had found a conventional explanation. This nine-page case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives.
