Summary

This report covers two sightings near Dayton, Ohio. Late on August 31, 1952, about 11:45 p.m., a base duty officer received a call from the Piqua, Ohio police about a sighting north of Piqua. A resident reported an oblong object with flashing red and blue lights that he said was definitely unlike an aircraft. Police felt the source was reliable, but no follow-up call was made and the witness was not interviewed.

Just after midnight on September 1, 1952, a woman called from south of the Dayton Municipal Golf Course to report unusual sky activity she had watched since about 11:00 p.m. She described a very bright star-like object with the brilliance of an aircraft landing light, but no beam. It seemed to show fainter "auxiliary" stars, sometimes at the 2 o'clock and sometimes at the 11 o'clock position. It showed occasional movement and rose from about 30 degrees above the horizon to about 50 degrees over the time she watched.

The woman said she was a former camp director with some basic knowledge of astronomy and had reported a similar event before. The observation was made with the naked eye. The record card lists the case conclusion as insufficient data.
