Summary

On June 25, 1954, military witnesses near Danville, Illinois, watched a strange object for about two hours. A call from the University of Illinois airport in Champaign first drew their attention. The object was pear shaped and the apparent size of a pinhead. It looked silver blue and transparent, with no trail, tail, or exhaust and no sound.

The object stayed at about 45 degrees elevation, then drifted gradually toward the northwest and disappeared as the sun set. Observers used binoculars, a 60 power telescope, and a movie camera. Pilots of two airline flights also saw it.

The Air Force record card listed the object as probably a weather balloon, based on its description and manner of flight.
