Project Blue Book Case File
Corvallis, OregonAugust 1955
Summary
On August 3, 1955, at night in Corvallis, Oregon, a civilian fire lookout reported one oval object. The Air Force recorded the report under Project 10073, its official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The object was red on one side and green on the other. It looked about the size of a quarter held at arm's length, seen through fire-sighting equipment. It appeared to go left and right and to stop and go. It was still in sight when the report was made.
The Air Force noted the bright star Capella was at about 20 degrees elevation in that direction. Officials agreed with the reporting officer and concluded the sighting was possibly astronomical, probably the star.
