Corona Del Mar, Calif., November 1957March 1957
Summary
On November 12, 1957, around 10:30 p.m., a civilian near Corona Del Mar, California reported a long black object that resembled a rope. The object crossed in front of the moon from left to right and was tilted at about a 45-degree angle to the right.
The witness was a newspaperman who wrote to the Air Force. He said he was driving home from a city council meeting and saw the object pass across the face of the moon. He described it as several moon diameters long, clearly defined and not fuzzy. He said it drifted slowly south without wavering and faded into the darkness beyond the moon's light. He stopped his car to watch and said it was no optical illusion.
The Air Force concluded the case was insufficient data for analysis. The record noted the duration was not reported. This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
