Summary

Between the night of January 11 and the early hours of January 12, 1951, witnesses across Kentucky and into Georgia reported an object. Reports centered around Corbin, Kentucky, and extended from Lexington, Kentucky, to Atlanta, Georgia. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The object was described more as a flash than a clear shape, moving from northwest to southeast at a high rate of speed. No shape, size, or color was given. One truck driver estimated the altitude at about 1,000 feet above the horizon. There were reports of severe shock waves at Corbin, with less severe ones at Lexington and Atlanta.

The Air Force listed its conclusion as a meteor, based on the evaluation of a local astronomer.
