Summary
On August 8, 1951, near Cleveland, Ohio, a pilot reported a strange object at about 1410 (2:10 p.m.). The pilot was flying about two miles off the lake shore from Port Clinton at 5,500 feet when he saw the object.
He described it as cigar-shaped, about 18 to 20 feet long, dark in color, and resembling a buzz bomb. It was at about 6,000 feet, heading 290 degrees toward the west, and passed him at a very high rate of speed. He reported it to Cleveland radio at 1440 (2:40 p.m.), when his aircraft was about 15 miles east of Cleveland.
The report was relayed through Air Force message channels. The Air Force recorded the case in Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports. The conclusion was that the object was an aircraft.
