Clear Lake, South DakotaNovember 1956

Insufficient Data

Summary

On November 27, 1956, a civilian saw one object over Clear Lake, South Dakota. The object was watched for about one and one half hours, with the eyes and through binoculars.

The report described an egg shaped object that changed from red to green. It was the size of a grapefruit at arm's length. It was first seen at 30 degrees elevation and 270 degrees azimuth. It changed directions fast with no set pattern and was still in sight when the report ended. A related report from nearby Kadoka described a round red, blue, green, and white object watched for a similar length of time.

To gather more information, the Air Force sent follow up forms to the witnesses on November 29, 1956. The case was listed as insufficient data while results were awaited. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record system for reports of unidentified flying objects.
