Summary

On April 26, 1951, near Chicago, Illinois, a civilian reported a strange object at about 1825 (6:25 p.m.). The sighting lasted about 30 seconds. The witness described a bright silver object at a low altitude of about 100 feet.

The object appeared to almost hover and then move in level flight, heading from north to west. The witness reported it in a letter to military authorities.

The Air Force recorded the case in Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports. The conclusion was that the object was an aircraft.
