Summary

On October 28, 1957, a civilian witness in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, reported one object in the sky at night. The witness was a newspaper advertising employee. He noticed the object after getting out of his car at his home. The sighting was a ground visual observation that lasted about 15 minutes. He watched part of the time with 7x30 binoculars.

The object was a small yellow light, about the size of a pea. It was low in the sky to the west or southwest. It became smaller and fainter as he watched. He said it looked brighter with the naked eye than through the binoculars. The object appeared stationary, though it could have been moving away. The weather was clear with excellent visibility.

This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The officer who took the report noted the witness was sincere and did not want publicity. The Air Force listed the conclusion as possibly astronomical, and the officer noted it was probably Venus.
