Summary

On December 7, 1954, an Air Force officer in Cape Province, South Africa, reported one object in the sky. The sighting lasted a few minutes. The object moved slowly from west to east, then turned north.

The object was described as semicircular with a dome top. It was about the same diameter as a weather balloon and was white, with no trail or sound. The witness was tracking a meteorological balloon when light reflected from the object drew his attention. He used a theodolite to observe it.

The Air Force record, filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports, listed the conclusion as unidentified. The card noted there was no case on file.
