Burgoon, OhioDecember 1959

Insufficient Data

Summary

On the evening of December 19, 1959, two girls walking in the country near Burgoon, Ohio, saw an object at about 5:15 p.m. as the sun was setting in freezing weather. The witnesses were civilians.

In the northwest they first saw what they thought was a jet leaving a vapor trail. The object then came straight down and the trail seemed to disappear. As it descended it took the shape of a ball, then a saucer that appeared to be spinning while tilted. The object stopped and hovered. When a plane flew in front of it, the object got smaller, seemed to rotate in the same direction as the plane, and then disappeared. The object was brighter than the aircraft, and there was no color and no sound.

The Air Force requested more information through a questionnaire, but it was not returned. Saying no conclusion could be reached on the data presented, the record card lists the case as insufficient data. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
