Summary

On December 10, 1951, near Buffalo, New York, a military witness reported a large, brilliant object in the sky. It was described as bright like the light of a welder's torch and globular in shape, with an estimated diameter of about 400 feet. The center was brighter than the edge, with a blue-white brilliance and a white outer edge.

A fiery, tapered cone appeared to trail the object, with a pulsating red-orange exhaust. The trail looked to be about half a mile long. The object's speed was estimated at about 240 knots, at an altitude of 2,000 to 4,000 feet, and it moved toward the north. The Air Force evaluated the case as astronomical, a meteor.
