Insufficient Data

Summary

On November 9, 1958, at about 4 p.m., about 500 people in Brasilia, Brazil, reported an object in the sky. The future capital was the site of the sighting. The account reached the Air Force through a foreign news report.

The object was thought to be a flying saucer. A Brazilian air force plane went up to about 3,000 meters to investigate but came back with no results. The plane commander said the object was flying at an altitude of about 12,000 meters. No direction or motion was reported, and the duration was not given.

The Air Force noted the data was not sufficient for a firm conclusion. It listed the case as insufficient data. The record suggested the object was probably a balloon at a high altitude but said the information could not support that conclusion. This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
