Project Blue Book Case File
BILOXI MISS, September 1952September 1952
Summary
On the evening of September 14, 1952, a civilian observer parked at the De Drive-in Theater in Biloxi, Mississippi, reported seeing unusual objects in the sky. Beginning around 2116 (9:16 p.m.), he watched what he described as cigar-shaped objects with a greenish-white color. The first object appeared to be roughly the size of the moon plus four inches along its edge. It remained motionless and glowed at about twice the brightness of a typical cloud until it began to fade, at which point it took on a half-moon shape and disappeared.
About five minutes later, the same object reappeared in the same position and stayed visible until approximately 2210 (10:10 p.m.), when it seemed to break apart. A second object then appeared in a similar fashion. Eventually, a third object came into view, positioned east of the first two. The observer heard no sounds from any of the objects and saw no trails, exhaust, or aerodynamic features. He remained at the drive-in until around 2300 (11:00 p.m.), roughly two hours after the initial sighting, while the objects were still visible.
The Air Force investigator noted that the observer appeared serious, intelligent, and conscientious. Weather data from the station nearby showed broken cloud cover at 14,000 feet at the time of the sighting, with visibility at eight miles. The report notes that no military aircraft interception or identification action was taken. The Air Force evaluation of the sighting was listed as "unknown."
