Summary

On October 14, 1956, at about 6:45 p.m. local time, a civilian near Batavia, Ohio reported an object that was assumed to be a jet making a vapor trail. The object was reddish orange and was watched for more than one minute as it moved on a northerly course. The witness said the trail did not get longer and that the object turned at a right angle upward.

The Air Force noted that trail condensation depends on conditions in the air, that the trail length and the apparent turn can vary with viewing angle. The Air Force concluded the sighting was an aircraft.
