Barberton, OhioNovember 1954

Unidentified

Summary

On the evening of November 12, 1954, a resident of Barberton, Ohio, observed an unusual object in the night sky. The witness reported seeing a cigar-shaped object that traveled westward without making any sound. The sighting lasted about five minutes.

According to the witness's account, a smaller object was seen leaving the larger one. The smaller object then traveled east while the larger object continued west. Both were observed moving at what the witness described as very rapid speed. The witness estimated the objects were flying at an altitude of around 6,000 feet.

The Air Force investigated the report using its standard questionnaire and interview process. The investigating officers documented the witness's observations about the object's appearance, movement, and trajectory. However, the case file reproduced here does not contain detailed analysis, radar confirmation, or meteorological reports that might explain the sighting.

The U.S. Air Force ultimately classified this case as unidentified, meaning investigators could not determine what the witness had observed. The full case file, consisting of 10 pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
