Summary

On November 11, 1953, a pilot reported a sighting over the Atlantic Ocean, near 48 degrees north and 57 degrees west. The witness was the civilian pilot of a BOAC airliner flying from London.

The pilot described a long blue streak. It traveled from east to west at very high speed. The object appeared to be 5 to 8 degrees above the aircraft and about 20,000 feet away. The Air Force could not interrogate the pilot for the length of the observation.

In Project 10073, the Air Force's official record system for unidentified flying object reports, this case was marked as astronomical. The Air Force evaluated the sighting as a meteor.
