Amarillo, TexasJuly 1957
Summary
On July 9, 1957, during the day, a civilian sewage plant operator in Amarillo, Texas reported a sighting. The sky was clear.
Two men were watching a B-36 aircraft fly over when they noticed one bright object that seemed to be following the plane. The object was round, about the size of a pea, and silver. It stopped for a while, then went straight up and faded.
The report notes a weather balloon was released near the same time as the sighting. The Air Force record (Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports) lists the case as a balloon. Both the civilian weather office and the reporting officer believed the object was a balloon.
