Summary

On February 9, 1956, a ground observer saw a strange object near Alger, Michigan. The Greenwich time was 0200Z on February 10. The night was clear with about seven miles visibility. The observer was a civilian who worked as a grocer and served at a ground observer post.

The object was round, about the size of a volleyball held at arm's length. It was red, changing to pink and then back to bright red. It had a short tail but made no sound and left no trail or exhaust. It first appeared at about 80 degrees elevation and 270 degrees azimuth. It flew a due west course and dropped over the horizon. The witness watched it for about 15 minutes.

The case is filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force conclusion was a probable aircraft sighting.
