Project Blue Book Case File
Alexandria, La., July 1958July 1958
Summary
On July 25, 1958, observers in Alexandria, Louisiana, reported an unidentified flying object at 2330Z (about dusk) local time. One witness was a military pilot, Lt. Bailey, and another was a civilian housewife. They described one round object the size of a grapefruit, which changed from red to white. It had an intermittent trail that looked like sparks. The object moved from east to north-northeast, then faded out. It was in sight for about 3 minutes.
Weather was clear with high broken clouds and 15-mile visibility. Base operations at England Air Force Base reported several night flights in progress at the time. The investigating officer believed the object was aircraft navigation lights but said available information made a firm conclusion impossible. The Air Force conclusion on the Project 10073 record card was probably aircraft, noting the sighting was characteristic of an aircraft at dusk. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
