This file is a U.S. Air Force intelligence record from 1949 and 1950 that was marked 'No Case, Information Only.' It preserves a press account headlined 'The Flying Saucers Are Back, This Time in Photographs.' The account describes a Chilean naval officer who said he had developed photographs of flying saucers near the South Pole, and a U.S. Navy commander who said he believed the objects were visitors from another planet. The report stated that the objects had been seen over the guided missile testing range at White Sands, New Mexico, and that trained observers using precision instruments had tracked a strange object about 105 feet across. The account appeared in the March issue of TRUE magazine. Another officer disagreed, saying he accepted the Air Force's explanation that the sightings were Skyhook balloons, which were large high-altitude research balloons. The Air Force kept the item for information only and marked it as insufficient data.
