Project Blue Book Case File
Adana, WashingtonSeptember 1959
Summary
On the night of September 26, 1959, a civilian near Adna, Washington, saw three objects. The witness was a railroad section hand, rated unreliable in the report. The objects were round with a blue cast, about the size of a match head held at arm's length.
Two objects were seen first, then a third appeared. They flew in trail formation. The objects traveled south and southwest, then turned to the southeast and disappeared behind trees. They were first seen at 30 to 40 degrees elevation and disappeared at about 25 degrees. No sound was heard.
The report was not received until four days after the sighting. Three airline flights were known to have passed about 15 miles east of the observer between the report times. The Air Force concluded the witness probably saw lights from commercial aircraft and mistook them for unknown objects. The card lists the case as probably aircraft. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
