Summary

On May 27, 1957, civilian airline personnel flying over Bristol, Tennessee reported a sighting. The observation was made from the air and lasted about thirty minutes.

The witnesses saw one white object directly in front of the aircraft. It looked like a bright light about the size of a star, or a dime held at arm's length. It stayed in front of the aircraft for the full thirty minutes.

The Air Force record (Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports) lists the case as astronomical. The comment notes a balloon would not have stayed in front of the aircraft for that long, and that with no closing of distance the object was most likely a star or planet. No separate report was on file.
