Summary
On November 21, 1953, at about 9:38 p.m., the captain of a Danish ship in the Atlantic Ocean reported a light. The position was off the coast of Greenland. The light was watched for about four minutes.
The light was described as as large as a big planet. It moved at very high speed and very high altitude on a course of about 246 degrees true. Weather at the spot was estimated to be scattered clouds with ten miles visibility. A check of flight plans found nothing.
A regional Air Force headquarters first evaluated the sighting as an astronomical event. The Air Force record, however, lists the conclusion as insufficient data for evaluation. It noted the direction of flight and other data were missing, the duration was long for a meteor, and there were inconsistencies in the report. It also noted a possible aircraft.
