Summary

On July 3, 1958, at 7:30 p.m., a welder located 5 miles north of White Cloud, Michigan, observed a round, silver object about the size of a dime at arm's length. The object was stationary. The observer heard aircraft overhead and directly afterward heard a 4-motor aircraft circling below the object as if searching for something. The aircraft was at 20,000 feet or above. Weather conditions were hazy with daylight, broken occasional overcast skies. Wind was blowing at 300 to 30 knots. The Air Force concluded the sighting was undoubtedly a balloon.
