Summary

On March 12, 1963, a Northwest Airlines pilot over the Pacific Ocean reported a bright flash in the sky. The sighting was at about 3:07 p.m. local time (Greenwich time 15:07). The flash was light blue and was seen just above the horizon, at a bearing of about 225 degrees.

The object was observed for about two seconds. No movement was seen. The pilot reported it was a possible meteor.

The Air Force, in its Project 10073 record, said the object's nearness to the horizon and its angle could give the impression of little motion during such a short sighting. Because the pilot considered it a possible meteor, the case was carried in the astronomical, meteor category.
