Summary

On November 1, 1959, a bright object was sighted in the Atlantic Ocean at coordinates 31.14 North, 61.57 West. An observer aboard the M/V Rio de Laplata reported seeing a bright object probably a white blue meteor of great intensity. The object had a course of 170 degrees. A red gas wake remained visible for about 20 minutes after the object disappeared. The observer noted visibility was 99 on the Fromalauth Star scale, with clear skies, temperature 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and pressure 760.5 millimeters. The Air Force retained this case because of the persistence of the trail left by the meteor.
