Summary
On March 18, 1963 (about 9:48 p.m. local time on the 19th by Greenwich time), the crew of the ship SS Plainsman in the Atlantic Ocean near Puerto Rico reported an unknown object that exploded in the sky. The position was about 17.55 degrees north, 57.40 degrees west.
The crew reported a further explosion when the object struck the water. The ship began searching the area but reported no additional information.
The report reached the Coast Guard at San Juan. The Air Force, in its Project 10073 record, noted that the results of the search were not received and that there was no evaluation. The case was listed as insufficient data for analysis.
