Summary

On December 2, 1957, a report came from a site about 15 miles west of Russellville, Alabama. A farmer and the local sheriff reported a hole or path about 40 feet long and three feet wide, with burnt and melted metal particles around it. The property owner said he heard an explosion on December 2 but found nothing until later. The sheriff guarded the area while military officers investigated. The Air Force recorded the case under Project 10073, its official record for unidentified flying object reports. Further inquiries showed that the object was an aircraft tip tank that had been dropped by accident. The card lists the conclusion as other, identifying it as a tip tank.
