Summary
In 1959, west-southwest of Meridian, an aircraft crew reported a bright light. The sighting was reported through the Air Force's unidentified flying object record system.
Three men in the cockpits of a KC-135 type aircraft saw a single bright, periodic light at about ten degrees right of their course and at the same altitude. The flight path appeared level with no clear maneuvering, except a very high rate of departure. The light was very bright for two to three minutes, then disappeared instantly, reappeared about a half minute later, then faded out of sight. A ground radar set was also involved in the observation.
The preparing officer noted the report was given by telephone and listed a possible cause of a high-performance aircraft light.
