Summary
On December 13, 1950, about 9 p.m., witnesses over Lake Champlain near Winooski, Vermont, opposite Burlington, reported an object. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
Several civilian witnesses, including a mill hand, a store clerk, a student, and a housewife, described a rocket or cigar shaped object about 4 to 5 yards long and colored orange red. It emitted a large fiery trail and made no sound. It traveled faster than any conventional aircraft, coming south from Canada, then turning west over Lake Champlain toward Whiteface Mountain. The witnesses said it made a very sharp L shaped turn. Its altitude was estimated at about 5,000 feet.
The weather showed light haze with stars and moon visible. Investigators noted the reliability of the witnesses was unknown.
