Summary
On the night of May 16, 1950, near Wilmette, Illinois, just north of Chicago, a man and his wife saw a strange object over Lake Michigan. The report says they were sitting in their parked car along the lakeshore in Washington Park around 8:45 p.m. The man was a civilian doctor, and he was interviewed by Army intelligence.
The wife first pointed out the object. It was moving south very fast, and at first the doctor thought it was a shooting star. He then decided it looked like some kind of aircraft. The object was elliptical, about 50 to 100 feet across, and seemed to glow with a pink color.
It was about 6 to 8 miles offshore and stayed in view for only three or four seconds, covering 50 or 60 miles in that time. When last seen, it had changed course and headed out over the lake. People in another car also saw it. The Army record labels it an unidentified aircraft.
