Summary
On July 27, 1950, near Wiesbaden, Germany, an airman reported a bright object in the western sky. The case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record system for unidentified flying object reports. The witness was an Air Force airman, who was sitting on a barracks porch around 6:50 p.m. (1850Z).
He said the object was at a bearing of about 315 degrees and about 45 degrees up, well above the low sun. It looked like a tilted automobile headlight, showing part of its underside, with no motion except a slight wobble. He called a fellow airman over, who also saw sunlight reflecting off it. A few minutes later, the object suddenly sped up and disappeared.
A second airman's description matched. Neither saw any means of propulsion. Two control tower operators on duty had not seen anything, though one said the sun's angle would have made it hard to spot. The Air Force record card lists the conclusion as probably a balloon or possibly astronomical.
