Summary

On January 28, 1955, around 12:15 p.m. (1215Z reported), a civilian near West Palm Beach, Florida, reported one object. The witness had gone outside to look at some birds in the yard. The sighting lasted about one hour.

The object was described as round, silver colored, and about 14 inches in apparent diameter, shrinking in size as it went. It approached from the northeast, passed overhead, made an orbit, then proceeded south and diminished in size until it was out of sight. The sky was clear with scattered clouds and 15 miles of visibility. Surface and upper winds were recorded in the report.

The Air Force record, filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports, listed the conclusion as probably a balloon. The card stated that the shape, color, and flight characteristics fit the criteria of a balloon.
