Project Blue Book Case File
Victorville, Calif., February 1959February 1959
Summary
On February 24 to 25, 1959, a civilian about 8 miles south of George Air Force Base near Victorville, California, reported a low flying object. The sighting was about 9 p.m. local time (0500Z to 0512Z), with passes lasting up to about 20 seconds each. The witness was a 17 year old high school student who was home with his younger brother. An Air Division intelligence officer investigated.
The witness described one elongated, egg shaped object, dull red with purple waves at its edges, slightly larger than his handspread at arm's length. He said it hummed like a large transformer but higher in pitch, and made a sharp cracking sound on each pass. It made several passes over and near the house, once at an estimated 8 to 10 feet over the front yard, and the vibration could be felt indoors. He reported the family dogs were terrified and the radio was blocked by static during the passes. Two neighbors admitted seeing something at about that time.
The Air Force record card listed the case under other, noting psychological factors. The investigating officer found the witness sincere and consistent.
