Summary

On February 17, 1961, a boy in Vernon, Texas, reported seeing an unidentified flying object and said he reported it to Altus Air Force Base. The information in this file comes from a letter the boy wrote to the Secretary of Defense, dated February 18, 1961.

In the letter, the boy described starting a new group called Sky Watchers to watch for UFOs and tornadoes. He suggested placing people across the country with cameras to film any objects they might see. He said he had sighted a UFO over Vernon the day before and reported it to Altus Air Force Base.

A reply from an Air Force public information officer thanked him and explained the Air Force policy of reporting sightings to the nearest base. The Air Force card notes there was no record of the report at Altus Air Force Base. The case is carried as insufficient data.
