Summary

On August 7, 1949, a pilot flying from Mexico City to Tampico, Mexico observed a mysterious object near Valles while traveling east toward Tampico at about 7:10 p.m. The object appeared flat on the bottom with a rounded nose and was bright yellow. It had no lights like aircraft, seemed to be trailing pinpoints of fire, and resembled no known aircraft. The pilot watched it for at least five seconds as it traveled at about 350 miles per hour, about 120 feet long and two miles ahead. The object seemed to be traveling slowly and at a constant altitude. No rotating or swirling motion was visible. The Air Force concluded the sighting was an astro phenomenon.
