Summary
On April 3, 1950, around 4:30 p.m., a 77-year-old woman in Summerville, South Carolina, reported an object over her house. She described a round, saucer shaped metal object, very shiny, moving slowly about 150 feet above her home. She watched it for about three minutes on a bright, cloudless day and said it made no noise. She could not estimate its size. A caretaker and others, including several neighborhood children, were said to have seen it too.
A second witness, a man about 26 years old who had served in the Navy Air Corps, was in a drugstore across the street. He saw the object far off in the distance, traveling north. From a distance it looked like a piece of pipe moving on its horizontal axis. He said it appeared to be traveling fairly fast and was in view for about two or three minutes, but it was too far away to estimate its altitude or size.
The report came through Army channels with a summary of information.
