Project Blue Book Case File

Sebring, FloridaFebruary 1960

Insufficient Data

Summary

On the evening of February 10, 1960, a resident of Sebring, Florida saw an unidentified object in the night sky. The witness described it as a white light glowing like an automobile headlight shining through fog. The object appeared oval in shape. During the sighting, which lasted approximately one minute, the object moved from north to south before disappearing vertically upward.

The Air Force questionnaire completed by the witness provides the core details of the observation. The sighting occurred at around 1915 (7:15 p.m.) local time. The witness was looking roughly straight up when the object first appeared and was still looking nearly vertical when it vanished. According to the witness's answers, the object's brightness resembled a distant car's headlight, and it did not flicker, change shape, or behave erratically during the brief period it was visible.

The case file shows that the Air Force found the report problematic. A cover sheet note stated that the "report contains little unbiased information" and that "insufficient data is available for a valid conclusion as to the nature of this object." The file does not specify what the Air Force ultimately believed the object was, though the original record card listed "Unknown" as the evaluation. No radar data, weather analysis, or investigative follow-up appears in the available pages.
