Summary

On September 7, 1959, a military pilot reported a sighting south of the Aleutian Islands over the Pacific, near 52 degrees north and 172 degrees west. The pilot first saw a bright blue-white flash low in the sky.

The object left a trail of particles that stayed visible for over 30 seconds. It appeared to be at a great range from the aircraft and disappeared about 3 degrees above the horizon. The whole sighting lasted about 30 seconds.

The Air Force noted that the flash and trail indicated a meteor. The record card lists the case as astronomical, a meteor. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
