Summary

On the night of November 19, 1959, a civilian woodworker driving south of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, saw an object for about 5 to 6 minutes. The witness was rated reliable.

The object first appeared as a horizontal row of red flashing lights, with the rear slightly higher than the front, which the man thought was a warning beacon. As it moved away, he saw two rows of red lights. When he got out of his truck it was completely silent. The object showed no maneuvers, halted in mid air, then started slowly and increased speed greatly before he lost contact with it. The witness said it reminded him of a helicopter.

The weather was clear and cool. A weather balloon had been released earlier and reached about 114,000 feet, but it carried no lights. The Air Force noted a helicopter may have been seen, but there was not enough evidence to confirm it. The card lists the case as unidentified. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
