Project Blue Book Case File
Pullman, Wash., July 1950July 1950
Summary
In July 1950, near Pullman, Washington, a Navy officer passed along a secondhand story about a saucer shaped metal object. The report was based on what a college police chief told the officer, which the chief had heard from a state patrolman in the Horse Heaven Hills area of Washington.
The story said a patrolman was called by an excited citizen who had found a strange saucer shaped metal object about two weeks earlier. The object had writing on it. The account says an Army officer from the Hanford atomic site then arrived and quickly took the object away. In conversation, the officer reportedly said saucers came in three sizes, some as small as 6 inches and some up to 250 feet across, and were launched at Hanford.
The report passes along these claims as confidential information, not as firsthand observation. The officer who wrote it said he was concerned about security. The file gives no firm Air Force conclusion.
