Project Blue Book Case File
Oswego, Ore., September 1947 - Incident Number: 51September 1947
Summary
On September 12, 1947, at 12:15 p.m., a housewife in Oswego, Oregon, observed twelve to fifteen round, silver-colored objects flying at high altitude. She reported the sighting, but provided no additional details about what she saw or how the objects behaved.
Because the witness offered so little information, the Air Force investigator concluded that no definitive explanation could be reached. The case file notes that the limited details do not suggest any astronomical cause. The investigator also found it surprising that only one person reported seeing the objects, especially since the sighting occurred during daytime in a city where aircraft were commonly seen.
The investigator suggested the objects might have been ordinary aircraft viewed from a great distance, a cluster of balloons, or possibly related to other sightings of unidentified round or disc-shaped objects reported in the Oswego area around the same time. Without more detailed witness testimony, however, the case remained unsolved.
