Summary

On January 9, 1959, a civilian in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, reported dark spots in the sky. The man was an electronic technician. He watched the objects from sunrise to sunset (the time group given was 1845 GMT).

He described round dark spots with small protrusions, each about the size of a pinhead held at arm's length. They moved with slow spiraling motions from left to right. There was no sound or trail.

The observer was looking at the sun through a welder's helmet filter to test the lens. The Air Force concluded the case was astronomical. The record card noted that a welder's filter makes it possible to see dark spots on the sun, and that the spots could no longer be seen after sunset. The conclusion was sunspots.
