Summary

On July 14, 1959, at about 9 p.m., a civilian in New Delhi, India, reported strange lights in the sky. The witness was a secretary at an embassy who later submitted the account in an office memorandum. He was on his roof terrace with his family after dinner.

He saw a bright, steady, light orange-red light, about as bright as a medium bright star, with no sound. It moved in a straight line from east to west at about 40 to 50 degrees above the horizon. He noted that an airplane that bright and close would have been clearly heard, and it did not show colored navigation lights. Over the next about 15 minutes, six more lights of the same color followed, with varying brightness.

The record card noted the objects were very similar to a meteor shower. It noted astronomical records showed a Capricornids meteor shower at the time of the reported sighting.
