Insufficient Data

Summary

On September 13, 1956, a person in Naples, Florida saw an object in the night sky that caught their attention. The object appeared to be oblong in shape, roughly three times as long as a blimp, and white in color. It moved from south to northwest across the sky.

The observer was inside their home when they first noticed a light coming through the screen door. They watched the object as it remained stationary in the sky. The length of the observation was recorded, though the exact duration is difficult to read in the available documents.

Air Force investigators reviewed the sighting and considered whether it might have been a meteor. The case file notes that while a meteor seemed probable, there was insufficient data to reach a firm conclusion. The case was ultimately marked as unknown.

A second incident also appears in these records, involving a sighting in Dayton, Ohio on the same date. That observer reported seeing an object resembling a bright star, which remained stationary in the sky. Investigators determined that the object's position closely matched the location of Mars in the night sky at that time and concluded it was likely astronomical in nature.
